Privacy Policy

Ruff Night reads your sleep data from Apple Health, calculates a score, and shows that score to friends you have approved. This policy explains what we store, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to remove it.
Health data
Ruff Night requests read-only access to a single Apple Health category, Sleep Analysis. It requests no other health data and no write access, so it cannot change anything in your Health app.
Your sleep samples are processed on your device. Only the calculated results listed below are sent to our servers. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings under Health, Data Access & Devices.
What we store
Data is held in a Postgres database operated by Supabase on Amazon Web Services in Northern Virginia, USA. Using the app means your data is stored there.

Records marked 30 days are deleted automatically by a scheduled job. Records marked until deletion are held for as long as your account exists.
Who can see your data
Friendships are mutual and require approval. A request can only be created using your six-character friend code, so someone must have received it from you. Either person can end the connection at any time, which stops visibility in both directions.
A confirmed friend can see your score, hours slept, number of wake-ups, the shape of your night, whether you reported it yourself, and your display name and dog. Nobody else can see any of it.
Notifications
When a night is recorded we notify the friends who requested it. The message contains your display name, score and hours slept, and is delivered through Apple's Push Notification service. Quiet hours hold notifications about you until the window ends. Notifications can be disabled in the app or in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Treat packs are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We do not receive your card details, billing address or Apple account. Apple provides a signed receipt, which our server verifies before crediting your balance.
Sharing
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it for advertising or marketing. Ruff Night contains no advertising, no analytics services and no tracking software. It does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
Two companies process data on our behalf: Apple, for sign-in, push delivery and payments, and Supabase, which hosts the database.
Security
Traffic between the app and the database is encrypted in transit. The database enforces access rules directly, so a query can only return your own records and those of confirmed friends. Sensitive operations run as fixed server-side functions rather than as writes from the app.
Deleting your account
Open Settings in the app and choose Delete account. This immediately removes your profile, sleep records, friendships, preferences, notifications, purchase history, diagnostics, push token and sign-in identity including your email address. It cannot be undone and no copy is retained.
Settings also offers Download my data, which exports your recent sleep records.
Your rights
You may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your data, or to object to its use, under laws including the GDPR and the CCPA. We extend these rights to all users regardless of location. Export and deletion are available in the app. For anything else, contact us.
We process your data on the basis of your consent, given when you grant Health access and enable notifications, and to provide the service you requested. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by revoking access or deleting your account. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law.
Children
Ruff Night is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above is updated. Material changes to what we collect or who can see it will be described here.
